Talking to Parents
How to Talk to the Parents
You can talk to parents
about how much they are charging you - even though
it may be a bit scary! If they're paying you $3 an hour or less,
talk to them about paying you more. The best time is to talk to
them before they even leave, or right when you get the next request
to sit. Tell them you think that $3 is too low, and you'd like
to go up to $4, but say you normally accept $5 or $6. Set a limit
you think is good.
Sometimes people think that the
older the babysitter is the more they should be paid. This can
be the case as older babysitters (16+)
may have a car or a drivers license, or more experience babysitting.
However, if you do an excellent job babysitting a parent's child,
then they should show their gratitude by paying you what you deserve,
no matter what your age is.
